As environmental uncertainty looms, urban spaces must be designed in preparation for climate catastrophes. Resilience is rooted in the abilities of community leaders to organize and respond to local needs. Urban Fabrik is designed for a low-income neighborhood at risk of being disadvantaged by climate disaster. Beyond its purpose for emergency readiness, its program hosts a bicycle assembly workshop. Providing an opportunity for locals to develop welding and fabrication skills, as well as personal modes of carbon-neutral transportation. The vivid colors and textures of the building become a strategy for collective expression as a community. This reinforces the building as a reflection of the communities identity and experiences. Urban Fabrik ties together leisure, enrichment, and emergency readiness all under one roof.
